Experience:
For the last nineteen years, as President and Principal of Sacramento Engineering Consultants, Rick has personally designed or directly overseen the successful completion of thousands of challenging and diverse projects, including: innovative HVAC systems, plumbing systems, lighting, power, signal systems, computer networks, security systems, emergency power on high rise buildings, hospitals, office buildings, schools, and federal and state buildings.  High and low voltage interior and exterior distribution systems is an area of particular expertise. 
 
During that same time, Rick has continued to increase his knowledge in order to better and more efficiently serve the needs of his clients by obtaining professional registration in the field of Fire Protection Engineering and further, by achieving registration in 40 additional states. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional.
 
Having engineered mechanical, electrical and fire sprinkler systems and being registered in three fields. Rick is able to provide final mechanical, electrical and fire sprinkler constructability review and excellent coordination.
 
Ten years of experience as Vice President of a large Sacramento Mechanical and Electrical Engineering firm and with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as well as  knowledge gained in five years as owner of an electrical consulting/construction firm provided the foundation that Rick built upon to create Sacramento Engineering Consultants.

Experience:
Since joining our firm Himanshu has proven himself to be an invaluable addition to our team.  He has over 13 years experience in design and project management, working on projects from the design development stage through final construction documents.  He utilizes his knowledge and experience to oversee design and coordination on all projects for which he is responsible.
 
Himanshu's design/project management experience has included low-rise and high-rise office buildings, hospitals, commercial complexes, industrial complexes, power houses, chemical plants, hotels and residential complexes. His experience includes power distribution and lighting design with a particular emphasis in Fire Alarm and Life Safety.
 
Himanshu has complete and thorough knowledge of NFPA and other local codes
and regulations relating to electrical and fire protection engineering. 
 
As project manager with Sacramento Engineering Consultants, Himanshu utilizes his skills and many years of experience to oversee design and coordination on all projects for which he is responsible.   Himanshu's responsibilities include client contact and project development. The multitude of projects that Himanshu has engineered illustrate his diverse design capabilities 
 
At Sacramento Engineering Consultants, Himanshu has engineered fire alarm systems for numerous school districts and is very knowledgeable of the particular requirements of the Department of the State Architect for school projects. He also possesses years of experience in fire sprinkler design and has engineered fire sprinkler systems for several hospitals, hotels, high rise buildings, power plants, commercial and residential complexes. His expertise on the fire sprinkler and the fire alarm portions of a project ensure that these two interrelated disciplines are thoroughly coordinated.


MING CHENG, ME, Mechanical Project Manager   [ top ]

Experience:
Ming’s formal introduction into the world of building services, particularly the field of HVAC, came when he took a job as an assistant mechanic in the summer of 1993. For over two months, he assisted licensed contractors in the installation of new air-conditioning equipments, ductwork, and water heaters, as well as helped in repairing AHU, fan coils, boilers, etc. This hands-on field experience confirmed his desire to learn more about various mechanical services that contribute to the well-being of a building and the comfort of its occupants, and inspired him to pursue a career in the engineering field.
 
At Sacramento Engineering Consultants, Ming’s duties include project coordination with other disciplines, field investigation, preparation of design drawings, calculations and specifications, client contact and project development. Ming has extensive experience in various applications of mechanical systems: packaged and custom roof top units, split heat pumps (DX and water source, variable air volume systems, radiant floor heating, kitchen and auto shop ventilation, steam boiler process heating, gas & electric unit heaters, evaporative cooling, and closed-circuit chilled water cooling.
 
Over the years, Ming has performed engineering calculations for numerous types of buildings, both new and existing, including office complexes, high-rise hotels & condominiums, commercial real estate, dry-cleaners, schools, swimming pool rooms, breweries and restaurants.
 
Ming also has a sound understanding of domestic and commercial water services. His job responsibilities include the coordination of site utilities with civil engineers and utility companies to ensure adequate building water, sewer and gas connections. His expertise in T24 energy compliance issues helps clients minimize initial equipment cost and construction cost. Combined with his familiarity with applicable codes and regulations, Ming’s design embodies the right mix of simplicity, functionality, practicality, as well as energy efficiency.

Experience:
Since Elias began his career with Sacramento Engineering Consultants over ten years ago, he has proven himself to be an extremely capable and reliable individual.  His continuous quest to improve his knowledge and skills, coupled with his drive and intelligence have enabled him to progress from draftsman to designer in a short time and to become an invaluable member of our team.
 
Elias is responsible for the design and selection of mechanical heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems for various new and existing construction projects.  He performs the calculation of energy loads and the completion of state and local documentation requirements. His expertise in Title 24 Energy Compliance calculations assures compliance with minimal equipment cost to the owner.  Elias' design experience has included:  buildings, restaurant/kitchen facilities, nursing homes, schools, apartment complexes, and military facilities. 
 
Elias has experience in the usage of HAP, TRACE and Title 24 Energy Compliance programs for equipment selection and energy compliance.  In addition to his mechanical experience, Elias has extensive experience in plumbing design.   Elias is adept at the coordination of mechanical units and ductwork with architectural, structural and electrical requirements.  He is knowledgeable of handicap codes and Americans with Disabilities Act requirements as they apply to plumbing design.
 
Elias' particular expertise is engineering the special systems associated with restaurants.  Kitchen hood and make-up air systems, kitchen plumbing, including grease traps and grease interceptors, and other code requirements associated with  dining facilities have become his specialty.  
 
Elias has engineered mechanical systems for IHOP, Burger King, Togo’s, Baskin Robbins, Max=s Restaurants, and Boston Market as well as dozens of independent restaurants.
 
Also, success on ARCO, Texaco, Exxon, Shell, Tosco and independent gas station new and remodel projects is evidenced by the hundreds of stations engineered by Elias  while at Sacramento Engineering Consultants.


JOSE HERNANDEZ,  Mechanical Project Manager   [ top ]

Experience:
Jose has over fifteen years experience in the design and specification of plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems, heating and cooling loads, review of HVAC, plumbing and piping submittals and shop drawings.  Jose applies his expert knowledge of package HVAC units, split systems, multi-zone units and chiller\boiler systems to the advantage of clients on every project engineered.   He performs the calculation of energy loads and the completion of state and local documentation requirements.
 
Jose has extensive experience in the usage of HAP, TRACE and Title 24 Energy Compliance programs for equipment selection and energy compliance.   Applying these systems analysis programs, energy efficient, cost  effective systems which meet exact client needs are ensured on all projects. 
 
Jose's design/project management experience has included various mechanical and plumbing projects including: low-rise and high-rise office buildings, detention facilities,  restaurant/kitchen facilities, nursing homes, schools, churches, apartment complexes, and military facilities for clients that have included: USA Properties,  Intel,  Sacramento City Unified School District and Marysville Unified School  District.
 
Jose’s reputation in the engineering community is perhaps displayed best by trust that  contractors place in his engineering capabilities.  Several HVAC contractors who build from numerous engineer’s competitively bid designs, select Jose and Sacramento Engineering Consultants for their design\build projects. Contractors  have observed his competence as manifested by his practical and cost effective designs and have repeatedly selected Jose and Sacramento Engineering Consultants for their engineering projects.

Since joining our firm in 1999, Judy has proven herself to be an invaluable addition to our team.  She has over 16 years experience in design and project management.
 
As a Mechanical Designer, Judy uses her skills and experience to oversee design and coordination on all projects for which she is responsible.   Judy's responsibilities include client contact and project development.  Judy's areas of expertise include heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) design and load calculations (HAP Carrier Program), plumbing and gas piping design and calculations, mechanical equipment sizing and selection and latest Title 24 compliance and documentation (commercial and residential, performance and prescriptive).
 
Judy is responsible for HVAC unit selection, plumbing fixture selection and coordination with other disciplines on projects.  This includes coordination of site utilities with Civil engineers and utility companies of building water, sewer and gas connections to building.
 
Judy's design/project management experience has included various mechanical projects including: low-rise office buildings, fast-food restaurants, schools, churches, medical/dental office buildings, warehouses, parks and retail stores for numerous clients.
 
Judy's particular engineering strength lies in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints churches designs and their specification requirements.
 
Judy is familiar with all applicable codes and regulations relating to mechanical and plumbing engineering and the book specifications that are applicable to this field.  Judy also performs inspections for construction projects as well as submittal reviews to insure that they comply with the mechanical construction documents.




CHRISTOPHER M. GILLAND, Electrical Project Manager   [ top ]
 
Education:
San Juan High School Graduate, 1976. Has continued his education at local colleges intermittently since 1976.
 
Special Instruction:
Lighting design course conducted by the Illuminating Engineering Society course in conjunction with the Sacramento Municipal Utilities District.  Fundamentals of Motor Controls conducted by the Sacramento Valley Energy League.  Course in AutoCAD at Cosumnes River College, 1988.
 
Experience:
As a Project Manager, Chris uses his vast experience to oversee design and coordination on all projects for which he is responsible.  Chris' areas of expertise are in church design, restaurants, fueling\convenience stores, and telecommunications facilities. 
 
Chris' knowledge of church lighting and power requirements has been utilized on scores of successful church projects.  On existing churches he surveys existing facilities, documents existing systems and reports on recommended renovations and cost implications recommendations.  His knowledge of church lighting requirements and fixture specifications ensures success on achieving the best lighting for every area of new or renovated churches.
 
Chris has engineered electrical systems for IHOP, Burger King, Togo’s, Baskin Robbins, Max‘s Restaurants, Boston Market, Chipotle, Cena Di Mare, Dos Coyotes, T.G.I. Friday’s, Ruth’s Chris Steak House as well as dozens of independent restaurants.
 
Success on ARCO, Texaco, Exxon, Shell, Tosco and independent gas station new and remodel projects is evidenced by the hundreds of stations engineered by Chris while at Sacramento Engineering Consultants.
 
Among telecommunications clients served by Chris are Nextel, Sprint PCS, AT&T wireless, Cingular, Metro PCS, Pacific Bell Mobil Services, MCI and others.  If repeat clients indicate success, Chris has displayed success by engineering hundreds of telecommunications projects on a continuing basis.
 
Engineered electrical systems include: power distribution emergency generation systems, interior and exterior lighting, power, fiber optic cabling, fire alarm and signal systems.
 
On all of the above projects and others managed by Chris, he maintains client relations, directs designers and drafters, coordinates design, contacts utilities, checks final design, administers construction and does site inspections and follow-up to ensure a project which exceeds client expectations.
 
Prior to joining Sacramento Engineering Consultants, Chris was a Draftsman/Electrical Designer for other large Sacramento electrical engineering firms in Sacramento always increasing his knowledge and responsibility to achieve his current eminent status in the electrical engineering field.

Jim has been involved in the electrical construction industry since 1978 when he started as an electrician, later moving into supervising the construction of a wide variety of commercial and industrial projects. He gained experience in all aspects of electrical construction when he became a licensed C-10 electrical contractor in 1990, and started up his own electrical contracting firm specializing in design-build construction. As a project manager, Jim has extensive experience in all phases of project construction, including site investigation, design development, value engineering, construction documents, and construction support.  This experience includes both remodel and new construction of numerous projects with complex lighting, power, telecommunications, and signal systems.  During his time in this industry, Jim has been involved in hundreds of projects which include many healthcare, office, military, food service, retail, and industrial process projects.
 
As a member of our team, Jim’s experience as a contractor as well as his many years of design experience have enabled him to provide invaluable assistance to our clients throughout all phases of design and construction of all the projects he has undertaken.

Experience:
Conrad was one of Sacramento Engineering Consultants original employees and has progressed since 1989 when he joined the firm.
 
As a Project Manager, Conrad utilizes his years of experience to oversee design and coordination on all projects for which he is responsible. 
 
Conrad’s specialty is design of very cost effective developer and design build projects. Conrad has designed literally millions of square feet of office/warehouse space for Buzz Oates, Panattoni Development and others.   Having worked with the most successful developers in northern California, has instilled in Conrad the developer mentality of practical, cost effective design. 
 
As his practical design methods were observed by contractors Conrad began to develop a reputation for excellence and now has several design build contractor clients.  Conrad prides himself in designing what the client wants.  His designs have been called “contractor friendly” in that they communicate the project scope clearly, simply and are biddable and buildable.
 
Conrad’s other main area of expertise is in multi-family residences, hotels and apartments.  The fact that he has several repeat clients in this very competitive market is a reflection of his knowledge of code requirements, cost effective design and fast response to client needs.
 
The fact that Conrad excels in three of the most competitive markets: developer, design/build and multifamily residences is testimony to this ability to perform quickly with excellent designs which create repeat clientele.
 
Conrad has engineered over 850 projects at Sacramento engineering consultants. Office warehouse projects include: Stationers, Staples, Beechcraft, ConAgra, Whirlpool, Mission Foods, Skypark Yuba, Mace Ranch, and Vacaville Corporate Center.

Experience:
John has engineered hundreds of school projects in his ten years at Sacramento Engineering Consultants.
 
John has unsurpassed knowledge of school fire alarm, clock, telephone/intercommunication, data, power and lighting systems required on a successful school project.  John’s knowledge of these systems and his personal communications skills enables him to understand a school districts needs and eminently able to implements the needs into exact systems designs.
 
John specializes in remodel and portables projects.  These projects require unfailing dedication to documenting exiting conditions and matching design with existing systems and site conditions.
 
John has excellent relationships with engineers and maintenance personnel on site at the school districts on which he designs, including the following: Marysville Joint Unified School District, Sacramento City Unified School District, Elk Grove Unified School District, San Juan Unified School District, Folsom/Cordova Unified School District, Lincoln Unified School District, Redding Unified School District, Woodland Unified School District, Eureka Unified School District, Red Bluff Unified School District, Davis Unified School District, Mariposa Unified School District, Grant Unified School District and others.
 
Each school district and school has it’s own particular systems and requirements. John is able to work with school personnel, identify user needs and engineer systems that function with the existing systems.
 
John also maintains excellent relationships with Department of State Architect School plan checkers.    Finally to forward the successful completion on his projects, John maintains excellent relationships with equipment suppliers and school contractors on his projects.  John performs final punch lists and tests systems to ensure client satisfaction.


GARY BRIENZA, Fire Protection Project Manager   [ top ]

Experience:
Gary came to Sacramento Engineering Consultants with over 30 years experience in fire protection engineering.
 
Having many years experience with a large local design build firm as a division manager, Gary has unsurpassed knowledge of fire protection systems. He has supervised and performed estimating and design.  He controls design, purchasing, fabrication and field installation. Projects have included major retailers, complete shopping centers, warehouses, office construction and remodel, retrofit for government office facilities and project development for new parcels with design of fire protection of overhead sprinklers and underground utilities both on and off site. Responsibility for yearly budgeting, cost control, contract administration and current work in progress.
 
As project manager with Sacramento Engineering Consultants, Gary utilizes his skills and many years of experience to oversee design and coordination on all projects for which he is responsible.   Gary=s responsibilities include client contact and project development.  His expertise in the field of fire protection engineering enables him to coordinate both the mechanical and fire protection elements of the projects that he engineers. 
 
Gary's particular area of expertise is fire sprinkler systems.  Fire sprinkler line and head placement is engineered after determining applicable code requirements, architectural features and structural limitations. He then performs hydraulic calculations to ensure adequate fire sprinkler coverage at a minimum of cost to the project. Gary has engineered wet pipe, pre-action, deluge and mist systems to protect all types of buildings.  He is also knowledgeable of FM-200, CO2 and foam suppression systems.
 
Gary's fire protection design/project management experience includes: low-rise and high-rise office buildings, restaurant/kitchen facilities, nursing homes, schools, churches, apartment complexes, and military facilities for numerous clients.  Gary has unsurpassed knowledge of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Uniform Fire Code (UFC).  Having worked in the field in the Sacramento Area for over 20 years, Gary has superior knowledge of local water districts, fire districts and building department requirements.  Gary has gained the respect and admiration of municipalities, water districts and fire departments in his many years of fire sprinkler engineering in the greater Sacramento area.
